A brief update
If the blog is looking a little bare at the moment, it’s intentional. I cleared out a good number of my early posts. Besides the obvious struggles of a newbie author/newbie blog writer trying to find their online voice, the posts described a lot of aspirations I no longer maintain. Chiefly, goals I had related to the Horror Writers Association (HWA).
Unfortunately, there have been some recent controversies that have smothered the last remaining embers of motivation I once harbored in wanting to be involved with the HWA. From pro-AI drama in the now deceased Discord, to pro-AI drama from trustees in newsletters (both of which were official communications), from leadership with reported pasts involving discriminatory rhetoric, to alleged misconduct by leadership candidates, I just don't see a reason to have any public support for or alignment with the HWA displayed right now.
That may change in the future. There have been some recent reactive steps to right the ship, including the removal of the trustee and the candidate dropping out. But these issues were persistent for some time, and unaddressed until sufficient public backlash forced accountability. That opinion pieces with such anti-creative sentiments can be published and pushed to the community in the first place speaks volumes.
So, the insatiable beast that is this blog will stay lean as I prioritize writing stories over posts. But the beast will fill back out as I feed it more content, more updates and stories of life and fiction.
As for my current goals, I am now a lifetime member of the International Society of Latino Authors (ISLA). I’m really, really looking forward to sharing more on that in future posts.
I hope you're all enjoying your summer reads! Back for Blood: Never Whistle at Night Part 2 just released last week. Check it out! Support Indigenous authorship!
